unicornered: Kind of. Sort of. (But I do have a chest!)

[ It takes longer than he might have expected, all because Sharon keeps hesitating. Equus is alert and waiting, a protective force present in her shadow, just a quick precaution. She's ready.

But she's not, and she wonders if she ought to have asked Elliot to come with her. Or Gilbert. Or Reim. She is facing her killer, after all. But this is also Break. If nothing else, Sharon needs to speak with him alone, or nothing will change beyond irreparable damage.

She arrives-- eventually, and perhaps her eyes are still red and swollen from crying, her face two shades too pale. She's tired, and it shows. But she's there, stepping over the threshold silently, and looking for Break. And when she does...

She freezes. She's not scared, not in the sense he'd expect, but there's something like panic seizing her chest, because if she's not careful, she'll never to be able to face this person again.

And she won't give Break that satisfaction, she thinks, taking a quick breath and forcing herself to take a step forward, for her voice not to tremble. He'd been with her for years. If he thinks he can cut a tie so neatly without repercussions, he's underestimating her. ]

I'd like an explanation.
